Tecnology-less
Thats exactly what I have been for the last few days. I really wanted to challenge myself like Ms. Fletcher suggested. Although I am currently on the computer it is for homework so it doesn't count. I put my phone and ipod in a cabinet where I will not be tempted to use them. It really feels good I would suggest this to anyone. It very challenging though! only the strong can handle it. It does help that I'm staying with my Hippy aunts for the next week and they are extremely supportive. I can't count the number of times I've patted my pockets looking for my phone. The worst part is falling asleep without my ipod or pandora.com. These last few days have opened my eyes to how emerged in the media world I am. I'm disappointed how much I want to text but I am Definitely making some life changes because I am happier without facebook , texts messages ,and reality television in my face all day. Thanks for the challenge Ms. Fletcher! I hope more people are doing this too. If you are I would love to hear about it.

I to did a day with no technology (well i was sorta forced to because dad forgot to pay the cell phone bill) but anyway I know how you feel. No text or facebook or t.v or worse Ipod is hard to go without. But after the first day or two it didn't seem to bother me. Ipod,I have my alarm clock radio. T.v. pssh I don't really watch much of it anyway, txt or talk, I can commuicate wthout it. I'm glad you also tryed survivng without the phone and everything. I thought I was the only one who did it. haha
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how hard that was. It is tempting me to try it, and I believe I will give it a try as well.
ReplyDeleteI am scared though. I am not used to this. How will I communicate with those I am not with?
How long are you trying it for Anna?
I think we should all unplug for a couple of hours a day.
ReplyDeleteWe have a quiet inner voice. We can cultivate a deep wisdom. We have OURSELVES, our most precious and valuable treasure. But we don't listen to ourselves, consult our deeper wisdom, stop and reflect about what is happening around us. No inner voice speaks to us because we fill our heads with the voices of others. Too much chatter, too much noise.
Anna, same goes for me except mine wasn't by choice. I got my phone and iPod taken away and television, well I hardly watch it anyway. I can ask for my iPod back anytime but for some reason I won't, I just like how it feels not being consumed by technology all the time, I found so many other things to do than to be on the internet on my iPod. As for my phone, I got that back but I don't use it as much anymore, in fact I rarely do, only to communicate with my mom or dad and that is a must. After reading Postman's book, I understand the way technology is taking over the lives of Americans and I don't want to be pulled into even more of it. I guess it is just my conscience speaking to me, saying it isn't right or that I should do better things with my time. I don't need any of it, execept the computer for school and Drivers Education but other than that I don't need any of it and I now feel like I'm not being consumed by technology and actually living an accomplished lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteI have done Mrs. Fletcher's challenge on going without technology. Honestly, I found it so simple to do which I have done more than 15 days during this summer. I think that it was so easy for me because I don't have a cellphone or ipod, don't care about television, and that I go on the internet about one per week. I guess that todays' technology has not affected me yet. I would like to see anyone to do the amount of technology-free days as much as I have done because I would like to see if doing that many technology-free days would make the person able to ignore technology at any time.
ReplyDeleteYou say only the "strong can handle it" as if it is such a hard task, hahaha. Anna, I love what you've said here and tried encouraging people to make a change. I've done this challenge and actually posted my first blog post about it. But...technology isn't the bad guy. It's us.
