Lucid Dreaming

Controling your dreams? What the.
Sometimes people are able to control their dreams. This is because in their dreams, they are subconsciouly aware that they are dreaming, it's called lucid dreaming. In order to have lucid dreams, there is some sort of series of steps that you must do. One of them involves the repetition of the words "Am I dreaming?" while you are awake and the words "I am dreaming" while you are in your sleep. And in the morning when you wake up, you realize that you were "awake" while you were dreaming, or something close to that.

When I read about lucid dreaming, it reminded me of how Huxley's characters gained information from repeating certain phrases over and over again while they slept. The phrases would get stuck in their subconscience and that was how they learned about soma and status.

Maybe we are not far from learning in our sleep. If we can be subsonsciously aware that we are dreaming WHILE we are dreaming, and if we can control our own dreams according to how we want them, then maybe in the future instead of repeating "I am dreaming," we'd be repeating, "Drugs are bad."

  1. Wow. Up to now, most people thought of hypnopaedia as something negative. But if we do come to use it, hopefully it will be for something positive, like "Drugs are bad." People will learn it, know it, and maybe believe it.

  2. Exactly, who said all of Huxley's predictions have to be taken as a negative? We could turn his hypnopaedia idea into something useful and good. Plus we'd be getting rest and learning at the same time. It would save us time to learn or do other things. Who knows? who knows.

  3. Whoa. Lucid dreaming does seem almost exactly like soma. Didn't people already try the hypnopaedia thing? I thought i heard something about it...hm, interesting thought about using it in a positive way.
