Ground Zero Mosque? threat or not

I was watching the news tonight and saw an arguement about the a mosque being built close to the 9/11 ground zero. Apparently many Americans are against this; however, I suspect that, like Postman wrote in his book, they aren't so much angry about it as they see that the media is against it, and if the media is against it so are they. Despite the fact that if the government tells them that they cannot build the mosque, it will be a complete violation of our freedom of religion. The suspicion that certain news personalities are exhibiting is creating a monkey see monkey do effect thats making America afraid that this mosque could end up being a center of another terrorist attack. I see that this is an ignorant idea seeing that this is merely a place of worship not every mosque and every Muslim is an extremist. They are also saying that the people funding the building of the mosque MAY have ties to terrorist groups. But how can they be certain? Do you think it should be built or not?

  2. The government and people have the right to be hesitant and cautious about this, but if the media are going to inflate this situation and possibly blow it out of proportion, then this conflict will definitely get messy. I will try to stay reasonable on this and state that the mosque should not be built, at least not until they look further into it because as you stated the media said, "the building of the mosque MAY have ties to terrorist groups". I believe such statements should not justify that they should not build a mosque near ground zero, but it does give them a reason to be cautious about building it. Just for thought: If media said that it was fine to build a mosque at ground zero, but mentioned that they may have ties to terrorist groups, do you think people would agree to the building of the mosque? If they do disagree with media then maybe we can assume that they have SOME free will left.

  3. I think they should definitely build it! This country was based on religiuos freedom, but what most Americans have forgotten is that we (as a country) are all immigrants and all united. Most Americans have become plainly stupid because they say America for Americans, an too those so-calledamericans they can all go jump off a bridge because it is not our place or the media's to say what is right and wrong to do in this country. The media and the Americans who say no to the mosque need to review our amendments that we hold to such high esteem, but fail to enforce them unless it suits them.
