When we see things on the internet, we usually take them with a pinch of salt. On the television, however, do we take things as we see them? The television has taught us many misconceptions that aren't true.
For example, many young teens about to go to high school think that the councilors are just like on the t.v. show meaning that you can just stop on in and they'll talk to you about your problems. In real life, you have to make an appointment because they're usually doing paperwork and such.
Another example is how many people worldwide think that when a women is pregnant and the water breaks she has to be rushed to the hospital because that baby is going to pop out in thirty minutes or less. No, it takes hours and hours for a baby to be born.
Finally, and I think, the worst example is how South Park got people everywhere to start hating on redheads for whatever reason. Yes, South Park started that trend.
Anyway, the television has convinced us of many things... can you guys think of anymore examples?
Carina, I know what you mean! The television show Zoey 101 made me want to go to boarding school! It was so awesome, they had the ability to ride awesome mopeds to class, they could eat Sushi and come into class late. They hung out with their friends, boys and girls, 24/7 and didn't have P.E. class! It was like a dream school, but turns out, boarding school is ANYTHING but that school of PCA! Which was a bummer because I was willing to transfer! Haha. And about the whole red head thing, South Park did ignite some controversy in 2005 about Red Heads, but I remember growing up it was always there, even before South Parks rendition. In kindergarten there was a Red Head named Ashton and nobody liked him, they called him "Blood Head" and would even go as far to call him tampon head. They would physically assault him, but you know I feel like a lot of the anti-ginger stuff is partly tongue in cheek. There is some of it that is definitely not, and I think it begins at childhood where kids do stupid things just because someone's different. But usually when we get older, we see these differences and tend not to be overtly prejudice or we decide to accept it and get to know it. People were hating on "gingers" since the 11th century. So these things aren't only influenced by what's on T.V. but by our peers too.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with this. To me this is often the case when watching anything on television. Even when watchimg the news the viewer is fed an over exageration of a situation. When at the completion of the show your either left with completley useless informtion or a feeling of false knowledge.
ReplyDeleteThis is so true. All the fallacies that televisions feed the viewers are ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI got some also xD
1. Asians are chinky and smart and nerds. Not all asians are chinky, a lot of them have big eyes; not all asians are smart, some are interested in other things other than studying.
2. Taxis do not appear when you need them!!! (For areas that has taxis)
3. Beach is not filled with skinny-model-like hot females and males.
4. Drinking and smoking is not cool!!!
5. You will get chased by police cars and get ticket if you speed hundred miles per hour on local. Movies and especially Korean dramas make the actor/actress drive fast past other cars and make it seem cool, but nope.
6. Women do not rip off guys' heads when they are in labour.
teehee these are few I remember at the moment. Why do the producers or shows make these look real, I do not know, but it is unfair for ignorant people who watch these parts.
