I just wanted to share this song; it reminds me of Neil Postman's Amusing Ourselves to Death. It just goes to show people watch T.V. for lack of better stimulation. I like the song but if you really listen, it has a subliminal message.
Ending Lyrics:
"Wait a minute! My T.V. set doesn't work!It's broken!
What are we gonna do tonight? This isn't fair! We're hurtin'
We've got nothing left to do
With no T.V. and just a couple of brews
What are we gonna talk about? I don't know!
We're gonna miss our favorite shows!
NO T.V. PARTY TONIGHT!"
What are we gonna do tonight? This isn't fair! We're hurtin'
We've got nothing left to do
With no T.V. and just a couple of brews
What are we gonna talk about? I don't know!
We're gonna miss our favorite shows!
NO T.V. PARTY TONIGHT!"
Wow, I think this song really proves Postman’s point. Although this video can’t possibly represent every household in America, it probably comes pretty close to a large percentage of the population’s average night. I think this video is trying to show us how dependent we are becoming on television and other forms of entertainment.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of reminds me of the third ghost in the book A Christmas Carol. The third ghost, the ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, shows Scrooge what will happen if Scrooge continues to travel down the path he is taking. I think this video shows what could happen if we continue to be so dependent on television. I hope we change because Scrooge seemed so much happier when he started living his life differently, and I think we could all use a little less television.
