Why Do People Go 'Gaga' Over Lady Gaga?
Earlier today, while I was listening to the radio I heard the radio host talking about how tea companies are paying Lady Gaga over millions of dollars to be their sponsor. The reason for paying Lady Gaga so much money is because they feel she will bring back drinking tea and this made me think about, how does she has the authority to make a society bring a trend back. Why is it that society tends to follow the famous and popular people? I know I would not listen to Lady Gaga for me to drink tea, personally I do not even care for it but because she drinks it, it would not make a difference. Although, there are others in the world who would all of a sudden drink tea just because of this woman. Another thought I had was, how is it possible that they pay some singer a large amount of money when others are homeless and would be happy with ten dollars, yet these companies can't even help others, is it because society has become this selfish?

Yes, society has become selfish. They do not care for others anymore, as long as they are getting money and doing well themselves. This also shows that our society of people has shown these companies and celebrities that one of our priorities is them. Tons of people are obsessed with Lady Gaga and will do anything to be like her. Therefore, they will drink the tea she drinks because "it is cool." But, I agree with you. Just because a famous, and popular celebrity likes it, shouldn't change the way you feel about it. You like, she likes it, you still don't like it. Our society's priorities have become more for celebs and popularity, instead of the dying, poor, and hungry. What have we become?! Have we become so careless of the important things?
ReplyDeleteThe reason why they use Lady Gaga is because that's how marketing works. By using Lady Gaga they make a profit because it attracts the consumers because the general public likes new and exciting things. You say wouldn't buy that tea because it's Lady Gaga but what if it was somebody or something you do like? If there was something or someone that you're fond of advertising a product, you would consider buying it. In this case, it just happens to be Lady Gaga. The companies aren't concerned about the homeless because that's just not what they are marketing. It's sad that they don't care about the homeless, but being a charity is just not their company's goal.
ReplyDeletePeople pay hundreds of millions of dollars a year for things they don't necessarily need, but want. And what they want is driven by what's fed to them by the media. For the past decade, sex and drugs have been glamorized by the media. The innuendos have been everywhere, including music, tv shows, and movies. Lady Gaga's eccentricity is in the general public's appeal at the moment. She's even been appointed the creative director for Polaroid, despite the face she has no experience in the photography field at all. I think that Lady Gaga endorsing something like tea is better than her advertising something unhealthy like soda or... teen pregnancy. At least tea has health benefits... that is, unless it's packed in high fructose corn syryp.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the point is what Lady Gaga is specifically advertising, Mark. The fact that Lady Gaga seems to be the best choice to advertise any product is, to be frank, stupid. She is a pop icon, nothing more, nothing less. If the tea has health benefits, why not ask a someone with medical knowledge to advertise the tea? That idea sounds ridiculous to our society, but it does make sense. Companies choosing Lady Gaga to advertise their products is just shallow.
ReplyDeleteInorder to sell a product real people need the help of famous people or they would use other provocative messages to get there product to sell. The sellers make their commercials entertaining so that people can be entertained and want to buy their product. Using celebrities is a new thread and it seems to be working and the sellers profit has increased. Most people buy current products just because their favorite celebrities are saying that they use the product and people using get fooled by it. How long are they going to use celebrities to get their product to sell?
