As i began reading it took me awhile to understand the logic behind Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" i was continuously confused on the choices and the typical social norm that was accepted. I could not understand why anyone would create a society that was so controlled. In my opinion getting rid of emotion and taking a substance to rid of emotion such as love, is baffling due to the fact that not just emotions were controlled but everything is under control from a higher power. I slowly understood his motive and reason behind this "Utopian society" if there was no love, no parents, no hate, and or no anger there was no way for the society to fall apart seeing as soma was there to fall back on.
i still question why reaching your full potential was against "the rules"?

Reaching your full potential would be against the rules if we were in a controlled environment, just as the characters in Brave New World are. Why would you create something on which your intention is to control and have it know what you are doing to them? No fun, huh? So the solution is, produce it to be insipid, ignorant and dependable that it will do whatever you wish to make it do. Simple. But like you, everyone disagrees with the concept of the book and the fact that they ban everything useful is frivolous, I don't know anyone on this blog or otherwise that hasn't said the same thing you have, and I agree. This Utopian Society is Hell, and if I were to live in it but be as educated as I am now, I'd commit suicide.
