Convergence Culture

  1. Thanks for this video, Mrs. Fletcher. I believe that a lot this stuff is true. It's crazy to know that people are starting to lose interest in newspapers and magazines. Sometimes, I prefer reading a newspaper or magazine over an article on the internet any day. Staring at a computer for long periods of time can become tiring. I guess that the reason most people read online articles rather than magazines is that it's easier to access and free! Also, I laughed a bit on the part where it shows the hand texting 4 characters in less than a second. That is exactly like me. Another part I thought was strange was how it said that 2,000,000 televisions were in the bathroom. That's just taking it too far! I guess I'm in the middle of our world today because I like to read tangible books over and electronic book, but I think I would just about die without a cell phone. Let's be honest, most of us would. Overall, this video made me start to think about how we take so much for granted. If the cell phone is already becoming much more used than a computer, I'm scared to know what kind of world we will be living in in about 30 years.

  2. When you are an adult, talking to your children, you will say, "When I was a kid, our computers were OUTSIDE our bodies." It's true. Ray Kurzwell says the implants are right on the horizon. There's a YA novel called Feed that deals with this subject. Creepy, and real.

And like Postman says, nobody's really in charge. Nobody is asking us, "Hey Humanity, would you like this technological advance? Is it good for you? Will it take more away from you than it has to offer?" because everyone who creates technology is in love with their creation. Technology cheerleaders abound. But technology giveth, and technology taketh away.

  3. I still prefer reading a magazine or newspaper only because I know exactly where my source is coming from and it's more credible. You can't trust everything on the internet really. These statistics really do prove a lot. Machines are starting to have all the work done for us but what about manual labor? Now people might get laid off because they don't see the need of having humans do some work but instead let the machines do it.
