Even foods makes fun of now.

I was eating a hot pocket, and I noticed the "pocket" had some words written on them:

"Might as well have a free hand to text while you're eating."

Are we so addicted to texting we can't put it down even while we eat?

Huxley and Postman would have a heart attack if they saw what we've become.

  1. I too believe that they would "have a heart attack." I am not, in any way, dazed at this representation of cheap persuasion. I see it everywhere. The fact that it mentions this on a hot pocket is pretty pathetic, wouldn't you agree? So yes, Raul, we(not everyone, however) have become a little too addicted to texting. I had mentioned texting in a previous post of mine. I talked about texting while eating- quality family-time turning into a 'hey what's up' session is pretty shameful. As I am rereading Postman's novel(which was surprisingly VERY good), I noticed how often the theme of technology over classic English came up. People don't even vocally talk via phone, they I. M. We need to stop the madness before it gets out of hand... seriously!

  2. I don't think it's that serious. It's a cute message on a hot pocket that makes most people chuckle. Just because it mentions text messaging doesn't mean we should flame texting. If it said "Might as well have a free hand to read while you're eating" would that make it better?

  3. Cheyenne, you made a good point: it's a fun message that makes people laugh. However, when you directly analyze and deduce this phrase, it can be taken negatively (I think so at least). Fun modest quotes and phrases can manipulate a buyer and say "Hey, that's a good idea- I love texting!" This is how habits-bad habits- institute.

  4. I totally agree with your comment. A twix commercial has actually convinced me that I can avoid conflict by filling my mouth with delicious candy. But yeah, I get what you mean. :P

  5. It’s a very stunning, yet realistic concept isn’t it? We text so often it has nearly taken us over. Well, some of us. Not everyone texts 24/7 and that is a relief.
