For instance I was watching Bizzare Foods last night, and I was thinking to myself how most Americans would find the food disgusting. When you really think about it though, isn't our food really much stranger. The people in other countries are just eating what nature naturally gave them and trying to utilize every edible resource. Our food is the real freak show. All that processing and flash frozen stuff you find is not in nature.
More seriously though, there are times when we forget that people have differing ideas. With politics and religion everyone knows that everyone disagrees, but it was brought to my attention that there are some things that people still don't agree on. For those of you who haven't done the webography part of this assignment I suggest checking out this assigned website: huxley.net. The person who made this website suggests that paradise utopias are still a possibility for the future if we somehow find a way to configure are DNA differently and make a wonder drug. I thought until reading his thoughts that everyone pretty much agreed (this is based on class discussions and posts on this blog) that utopias are just not possible. Well he proved me wrong, and it was a good reminder that everyone has different opinions.
After that I did some digging and found out that there are some people who still believe the Earth is flat...
Do you guys know of any more examples like that?
I actually do know a few people that insist on committing their thoughts to an idea that are proven untrue. Just the other day, an old classmate and I were arguing over an apple on the grounds that he believes that any object colored that of fire is naturally hotter. As ludicrous as that seems, he stays adamant about it. What is even more strange, in my opinion of course, is that he believes the opposite is true, that all objects colored blue-ish would be naturally colder.

Yes. In some parts of the world, people still believe the Lakers are better than the Celtics.
No, I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself.
But seriously. In Peru, some of the Indian tribes that have survived refuse to used modern medicine and instead believe diseases are caused by evil spirits and such. I think they still have shamans and other such people.
A perfect example would be the Amish. They live in secluded areas and don't use modern medicine and technology. They stick to their strict religious practices and don't change with the times, keeping the same morals and ethics unlike the world today.
