Who goes to banks anymore?

The other day, while in the car with my parents, a commercial for a new iPhone app came on. The app was for the Chase bank, and the commercial described how you could cash checks straight from your phone! All you do is take a few pictures of your check and send it in. Simple as that.

As I listened to this, I thought, "Is there ANYTHING you can't do with the iPhone?".
My answer is leaning towards "No".

  1. Maddie, the thing about ipod (the newest version, 4G) you can chat with ANYONE you want with via video...but there's one catch. They have to own the same exact phone as you! So I am leaning towards 'Yes' on this one, there is things the iphone can't do. And I wouldn't trust checks going through anything but the human flesh. iphones also have slow internet connection and they are too expensive to just do minimal things, Japan already has technologically superior phones, and they’re far cheaper. And the storage is awfully better than the iphone.

  2. I think this has to do with not neccessarily people being lazy, but the way society has made it far easier for people to be lazy. For example I was in a public bathroom the other day and the paper towel dispenser is automatic depending on sense. I was thinking is it really that hard just to pull a paper towel out to dry hands? People think that these kind of inventions help people, but in reality they just simply make people more lazy. We simply have it to easy now days.

  3. I agree with Ammon. Some 'advances' in technology are really, well... pointless. I laugh in my head every time I see one of those pathetic electronic paper towel dispensers. I mean, really? That is just lazy. And, I think they are actually kind of annoying. They require more work than the regular 'pull with both hands' type, don't you think? Point being, many of the 'latest and greatest' technological devices are worthless, and have no value.

However, some advances in technology are pretty cool. I was watching T.V. the other day and a commercial came on for the iphone with live web chat. The ad plotted a young woman saying to her husband, "You're gonna be a dad." She was pregnant, and told her husband the big news via live web chat. I thought that was actually a cool app. That is what I call priceless!

  4. tHAT'S REALLY CREEPY how you have to everything electronically now and regular manual ways to do it are becoming harder and harder to find and do. it's like technology is completely taking over which will cause major problems in the future of the creepy scifi kind.

  5. I wish the iPhone would go out and get a job so I could stay home, read books and eat ice cream all day.

  6. Truthfully, phones like the Droid and iPhone freak me out because, well, they can do too much and are too smart. When I see stuff like the Terminator, I believe it, and the creepy red eye on the Droid isn't very comforting.....not to mention the new commercials for the Droid. Then there's the iPhone; in a few years I predict we're going to become so reliant on it that if they all broke down, everyone in the world would be completely helpless. And, Mrs. Fletcher, I bet that you're on to something; eventually people will be able to do their jobs over the iPhone (somehow) without having to get up from bed, and the phone companies are going to become the powers of the world. If this keeps up, then America is doomed.

  7. The point of any electronic, of course, is to make companies money, and in order to sell itself they have to find a way to appeal to us as a society. The iPhone apps started off being games because they knew that we want to be amused. They were appealing to teenagers. That was obviously not enough, and they wanted more prospective customers. Everyone wants an easier life, and they gave it to us. Brave New World would offer us an easier life as well.

  8. I remember watching that commercial and thinking how dangerous that is. You take a picture and it flies through space to the bank... you took a picture of the check... someone, somehow, I'm sure of it will figure out a way to hack this, get the picture, and edit it for their own use.
    I don't feel safe...

  9. I need to get an iphone. Apps like that would make my life so much easier. Thank god for technology, it's so convenient.

  10. As I assumed, I also heard this commercial and I just think members from the Chase Company and Apple Company, met up and decided on ways to get more iPhones sold and increase the amount of people using Chase as a banking provider. They came up with This and I’m sure it’s helping in some way with both franchises. An example is Austin Smith (above) already convinced on buying one. Carina Taylor, I agree it is not a safe process.
